Location
Myanmar is a country located in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Thailand to the southeast, Laos to the east, China to the north and northeast, Bangladesh to the west, and the Bay of Bengal to the south and southwest. The capital of Myanmar is Naypyidaw and the largest city is Yangon (also known as Rangoon).
Currency
The official currency of Myanmar is the kyat (MMK). The kyat is divided into 100 units called pya.
The kyat is issued in banknote denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10,000, and 20,000 kyats. The banknotes have images of historical figures and emblematic places of the country.
The value of the kyat can be quite volatile due to the political and economic situation in the country. Additionally, it is important to note that the use of foreign currencies such as the US dollar is common in Myanmar, especially in the tourism sector.
Languages
In Myanmar, the official language is Burmese (also known as Myanmar or Burmese), which is spoken by the majority of the population and is used in education, the media and the government.
In addition to Burmese, numerous regional and ethnic languages are spoken, including Karen, Shan, Chin, Mon and Rohingya. These languages are spoken by ethnic minorities in different parts of the country and have different levels of legal recognition and protection. There are also some English speakers, especially in urban areas and in the tourism industry.
Climate 🌡
Myanmar has a tropical monsoon climate with three distinct seasons: the cool, dry season from November to February, the hot, dry season from March to May, and the rainy season from June to October. During the cool, dry season, temperatures can range between 15°C and 30°C, while during the hot, dry season, temperatures can exceed 40°C in some areas of the country. During the rainy season, temperatures drop slightly, but there is high humidity and heavy rain in some areas of the country, especially in southern and central Myanmar. In general, the best time to visit Myanmar is from November to February, when temperatures are cooler and there is less rain.
